چکیده
Drawing learners' attention to phonetic form during meaning-oriented activities (i.e., communicative focus on form) has been found be an optimal method of L2 speech training. In the context 55 Chinese speakers’ English [ɪ] and [i] acquisition (e.g., “sit” vs. “seat”), current study set out examine extent which outcomes such instructed learning are tied individual differences in domain-general auditory processing (precisely representing acoustic properties sounds). All participants engaged 1.5 h instruction. The treatment was carefully manipulated induce those experimental group attend accurate distinction [i]. According pre- post-tests, significantly enhanced their identification accuracy. However, follow-up analyses demonstrated that instructional effectiveness observed especially among with high levels processing, but unclear low processing. findings suggest source variation stems at least partially from training could help facilitate language some individuals specific difficulties.

This study aims to compare the effects of four types of FFI on second language vocabulary learning. To do so, the study adopted a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, including five groups, each receiving a distinct treatment. The participants were 80 fourth-grade male students ranging in age from 17 to 19. Before the treatment phase, the participants took a researcher-made test of vocab...

Recent developments in cognitive linguistics have highlighted the importance and the ubiquity of metaphors in language. Their effect has been instrumental in making significant headway into the pedagogical practice and design of teaching materials. The current study was carried out to explore the efficacy of focus-on-form (FonF) and focus-on-forms (FonFs) instructions on learning metaphorical l...
متن کاملDetecting auditory-visual speech synchrony: how precise?
Previous research suggests that people are rather poor at perceiving auditory-visual (AV) speech asynchrony, especially when the visual signal occurs first. However, estimates of AV synchrony detection depend on many factors and previous measures may have underestimated its precision. Here we used a synchrony-driven search task to examine how accurately an observer could detect AV speech synchr...
